Cake decorating is evolving faster than ever, and new brides and grooms are spoilt for choice. With so many designs and styles to choose from, whether you are sticking to a strict budget or have cash to splash, there has never been a more exciting time to choose a wedding cake.
New season fashion influences so many trends, and cake decorating is no exception. Here are 5 top trends to look out for in 2017:
1. Drip Cakes
Drip cakes have become a popular choice for modern weddings, originally pioneered by bakers down under, they have taken the cake decorating world by storm with their bright colours piled high with edible treats. Also extremely wedding worthy, they can be decorated with beautiful fresh blooms and pastel coloured chocolate drips.
2. Edible flowers
Any good baker worth their batter knows using fresh flowers is not advised on a cake, unless they are organic and edible that is. These beautiful edible blooms are soaring in popularity, look and smell stunning and are a real talking point for your guests. You can even put them in your champagne cocktail!

3. Modern sugar flowers
Sugar flowers never fall out of favour with brides, they are so versatile, can be matched to colours and themes and make beautiful keepsakes. Even the classic rose has had a modern update; with a trend for the beautiful David Austin rose, equally as beautiful when made from sugar. An emphasis on greenery and climbing floral arrangements from sugar will also be big in 2017.
4. Dessert tables
The popularity of dessert tables is continuing to trend. As well as being extremely instagram worthy, they are a fantastic way to offer different options, especially if some of your guests have any allergies or intolerances. Why have one cake when you can have 3? Along with other small treats like macarons and mini cakes.
5. Flower wall cakes
Flower curtain or flower wall cakes are popping up all over photo sharing websites like Instagram and Pinterest. They create a beautiful backdrop for a dessert table or a wedding photo booth. Having a flower wall cake is a stunning modern way to showcase sugar flowers. This is a flower wall cake I created for a recent photo shoot.
